Update: Finalized Land Purchase
In March of 2024, KWEC’S Director of Programs Grace Clinton received the Samuel Huntington Grant which is generously provided “to three people annually and the goal is to use it for public service projects whether it be based in the US or internationally.” This grant has been presented since 1989 and has included many esteemed recipients that have gone onto many impactful and diverse public service careers.1
On the usage of the funds, Clinton reported, “The grant will be used to actually build the KWEC center. Up until now, we’ve only ever been operating out of small office-fronts. But, when we started KWEC, our real vision was to create a place where people can seek refuge – especially those that are victims of gender based violence or those that are children of teen mothers or people who are needing help and an actual place to stay.”

In service of this mission, and through tireless efforts, KWEC is proud to announce that it has secured the plot of land on which this center will be built. On the location of the plot, Founder Christinah Hambira stated, “it’s accessible to the maternal health centre, the primary school and police” making it a valuable location for KWEC’s to integrate services.
Look forward to more updates from us soon!
